State Fair

Brets parents came to visit this weekend and we all took a trip to the Texas State Fair. I am normally not a big fan of State Fairs, and here's why....they charge for parking, admission, each ride costs somewhere between $4-$6 per person, a bottle of water is $3 and if you happen to want a hamburger, be willing to pay $10. In spite of being nickle and dimmed, we had a great time.

We rode some rides...

Abby got scared on the Farris Wheel that was 22 stories high.

But everyone else loved it!

She may have been scared on the Farris Wheel...but that was just a warm up. She loved the superman flying ride she and Grandma rode together.

Zachary choose to ride the car ride...notice McKenna in the background who sneaked in to get herself an extra ride!

Measuring up...

We saw the animals...

The camel tried to eat my camera

This ostrich almost bit McKenna's fingers...several times. Our little animal lover just couldn't resist trying to pet it, even if that meant putting her fingers in peril.

Biggest pig award! This pig is 4 years old and weighs in at 1,212 pounds!

We saw the tractors...

We walked...and walked...and walked some more

We covered a lot of ground between the time we got there at 10:30 till we left at 5:00. Zachary's little legs got a little tired at the end, but Grandpa's shoulders provided the perfect rest.

Gavin happily hung out in the stroller

And of course, we ATE!!!

And ate...

Bret's parents were on the look out all day for fried jalapenos, and happy when we found them.

And ate some more!

Caveman Abby lovin' the turkey leg!

I've never before seen such a selection of fried food in my life. There were the standard fried fair foods: funnel cakes, corny dogs, fried Twinkies, but if you're looking for the out of the norm fried food, come to the Texas State Fair in Dallas where you are sure to find (no joke), fried grilled cheese sandwich, fried banana spit, fried cheesecake, fried apple pie, fried chocolate covered strawberry waffle balls, deep fried S'mores, deep fried pineapple ice cream, fried chocolate truffle, chicken fried bacon, and yes, even Texas fried jelly beans.

It was a great day at the fair!

Aw yes, the deep fried twinkie, i think plain twinkies are much better. I love Fairs but they are way too expensive. At the Orange County Fair they had pig races that we would always see and then we'd get these Australian potato slices which you could cover in cheese or not and they were delicious. Oh and we'd always watch the hypnotist.
