It's A Bird! It's a Plane! No, it's a TREE!

I came home one afternoon from running a quick errand and McKenna and Zachary were so excited to show me that they had taught Grayson a new word!  They had been out on our back deck pointing at the woods and had taught him to say "tree."  They were so proud of him!   He was so proud of himself!  Lots of positive reinforcement was showered upon Grayson, only cementing deep in place the new found word.

There is one small little problem in the whole thing.  We now live very close to Dulles airport and we see and hear planes fly overhead all the time.  So while McKenna and Zach were pointing at the trees, a plane had been flying by and Grayson had pointed up at the sky and said "tree".  And yet he had been praised so much and everyone was so excited and proud of him for saying tree.   He just knew he had done something good and right.  They just didn't realize that what they knew was a tree was not the same thing as what Grayson thought.

Now anytime a plane is flying by he points up at the sky and says, "tree."  No matter how many times we say, "plane" he still calls it a tree.  It's definitely going to be one of his cute little sayings, and I know he will not be starting kindergarten in five years calling a plane a tree.
