Champs

Our end of summer swim season ended with a huge 2 day swim meet that had more then 2000 swimmers.  Gavin swam the morning of day one.  He was as nervous as he could be, but he did so great!  It was so cute to see his little body swim so well in such a big pool.

Here he is getting his trophy at the awards ceremony the Sunday after the meet.  It's a little hard to tell from this picture but he was just beaming!  It's his first trophy and he was thrilled to be presented with it!

I was so proud of him this summer.  His first swim meet I wasn't sure if he was going to be able to make it across the pool.  While doing freestyle he would turn to his side and take huge four long breaths of air when he was only supposed to be taking one.  He would only be half way across the pool when everyone else was finishing.  But he came so far!   By the end of the summer he was only taking one quick breath, he was finishing not long after everyone else.  In fact he improved so much that he was one of the few swimmers that got a medal for greatest time improvement!  Way to go Gavin!

Zachary swam the morning of the second day.  He swam freestyle and breaststroke.

great!  He was in the last heat and came in 9th place overall!  

We had some down time between Zach's last event and when the girls started.  The kids found friends, played some card games, and hung out.

McKenna and Abby swam Saturday afternoon.  McKenna swam free and back.

Abby was supposed to swim breast on the medley relay team but she got pulled off the team last minute and was so disappointed.  She swam free and breast and ended up improving her breaststroke by 1 1/2 seconds!

She had a great time and we thought she came in 9th place but someone must have been disqualified because she ended up coming in 8th place overall!  So proud of Abby and the strong swimmer that she is.

The most exciting thing about Champs this year was that our team, the Crozet Gators, won Champs for the first time ever!  We upset the reining champ of Champs who has one every year for the past 22 years!  It was so fun to be a part of such a historic win.  Abby and Zachary were both happy that they contributed points due to their breaststrokes.
