Zachary's Birthday Party

It was three weeks late in coming...but it was worth the wait! Yesterday we finally had Zachary's much anticipated Star Wars party. He invited 5 little guys from church and he loved it all. Having a late party just extends the birthday fun! This was the first friend party we've done for him and he seemed to glow in the spotlight.

He wanted an R2D2 cake...and I was pretty pleased with how it turned out.

At McKenna's party last year Darth Vader greeted all the kids, this year we had our own storm trooper!

Jordon, Tyson, Spencer, Zachary and Nick...and of course Princess Leia in the window! :)

Party Rundown: Save Princess Leia, Jedi Training, Restore Order to the Galaxy, Darth Vader Pinata, Yoda Says, Asteroid Hunt, cake, presents, and of course some good old fashion light saber fighting.

Happy Birthday to Zachary - what a fun party! We are having Jason's Star Wars party this Saturday - also his first friend party. Fun. Great ideas, too. :)

Kids Say The Funniest Things

December 15:

While listening to the Little Drummer Boy song:

Gavin: What...mom you hear that?!? It said, "Rum bum bum bum....ha ha ha ha.

He then continued to repeat it all morning thinking he was the funniest thing ever.

December 12:

Our home teachers asked McKenna what the angel said to the shepherds:

McKenna: Fear not! I come in peace!

December 8:

While at the grocery store with Bret McKenna starts rummaging through the candy dispensers

Bret: McKenna, stop acting like a bum.

McKenna: Dad, why do you always use bad language? (In our house "bum" is used to refer to private parts)

Bret: Why do you think McKenna?

McKenna: Because you were taught inappropriately by your parents.

After a laugh he let her know that there was another meaning to the word "bum."

March 21,

While driving to church today Bret told Zachary what a member of our Stake Presidency spoke to us about in a meeting the night before.

Bret: You know Zachary, he was talking to girls who were 16 and 17 years old and they all said that they would not marry someone who was addicted to video games.

Zachary: Well, I guess they are not going to marry me then.

Mom: What if Lucy doesn't want to marry someone who is addicated to vidoe games. (Lucy is a five year old girl in our ward who Zachary has a "cwush" on.)

Zachary: Well, OK. I guess I'll change my mind about video games. (Said in one of those "if I have too" tones)

February 28,2010

Bret went in to tuck the girls in one more time before going to bed to find McKenna still wide awake.

Bret: What are you thinking about darling?

McKenna: I don't want to tell you, it's too embarresing.

After a little coaxing she finially gave in...

McKenna: I'm thinking about...."merwidge"

November 8

Zachary: (all through the beginning of church...) Mom, I'm sooooo hungry. Mom, I'm so hungry!

Then after the sacrament...

Zachary: Mom, I'm not hungry any more. Do you know why? Because I remember when Jesus blessed the bread and the people were filled!

September 11

Zachary: I don't want to be sick today Mom. You know why...I DON'T WANT TO KILL MY BRAIN! Cause when you're sick you watch TV. It's like taking a knife and going "Yahh" in your head. (Complete with stabbing motion)

May 3

While Bret and I were in Virginia house hunting, Zachary sat at church with Marianna Taylor, the Bishops wife. He looked up at her and said,

Zachary: "I can tell by your eyes that you really really like me."

April 7

McKenna's friend came home from school and told her parents that McKenna said: "Our house is on top of target."

They couldn't figure out what she was talking about until they finially figured out McKenna must have meant "Our house is on the market."

March 3

Bret cut his fingers while attempting to catch a glass Gavin knocked down which shattered in his hands. It is safe to say that he lost it and the kids have NEVER seen him yell and be as upset as he was. (He was angry at himself for doing something so stupid after all of our recent health issues.) He left to go get stitches and McKenna came downstairs and asked with only the sincerity that her tender heart can convey...

McKenna: Mom, is Daddy going to die?

February 23

During Family Home Evening:

Bret: Ok, what family business do we have?

Abby: I have no idea what it means but Daddy has 11 friends. (Bret registered on facebook today and we have been joking all afternoon as his friend list increased.)

Sometime last fall

Zachary:(While talking on the phone to Grandma & Grandpa) I have good news to tell you and bad news to tell you. The good news is that I got to go to McDonalds. The bad news is that we had to come home.

January 3

Abby: Dad, I just have one question for you...

Dad: What's that?

Abby: If Santa Clause gave me this jewlrey box for Christmas, then why does it say "Made in China on the bottom of it?"

She's way too clever!

December 19

Driving home from the grocery store...

Zachary: Mom, is Batman real.

(Pause while I think about how strongly I feel about this answer.)

Me: No

Zachary: You mean he's just on movies and not in the world

Me: Yep

Zachary: Then who will save us?

Me: You can save us!

Zachary: No I can't, I'm just a little kid and I'm not strong enough.

Me: How about Daddy?

Zachary: No, he can't, he's sick. (Bret has been sick for almost three months straight, battling pneumonia that lasted for literally 6 weeks and other colds.)

Me: What about me?

Zachary: No, you're not a Dad silly. (He says with a giggle)

Me: Oh yah, well who's going to save us then.

Zachary: I have an idea, how bout we all work together to fight the bad guys, that's a good idea.

December 9

While giving Abby her practice spelling test tonight...

Me: spell the word pipe

Abby: what was the word

Me: pipe

Abby: What?

Me: pipe, P---I---P---E (as I spelled it out for her)

I think that goes against the purpose of a spelling test, to my defense I was also making dinner at the same time.

Sometime Last March

While I was on bedrest I did a lot of embroidery to keep myself busy. Michelle came to help take care of us and brought Abby her own embroidery to work on...

Abby: Mom, embroidery is my favorite sport.

I think I need to change this to the funny things that Zachary says...he's just at that age,

Zachary: Mom, we've seen High School Musical one, High School Musical two, High School Musical three...and after they make it I want to see High School Musical 199!

Zachary: Mom, I will never kill animals. Well, except for bad animals because we eat bad animals.

Me: Really, what kind of bad animals?

Zachary: Oh, Tigers.

I'm thinking, really, when was the last time I made Tigers for dinner?

Zachary: Mom, did you know that all animals have chicken in their body.

October 15

While driving to pre-school today:

Zachary: Mom, I love you.

Me: I love you too buddy.

Zachary: Mom, did you know that I love everybody in the whole wide world. Well, except Saten, because he is a bad, bad, boy!
