Soccer Saturdays

Forgive the picture overload on this post...just trying to capture a full season of soccer for three kids all in one.

It's official, Saturdays in the fall and the spring are called Soccer Saturdays with McKenna, Zachary and Gavin all playing soccer.  But they love it and it's fun to see them find joy and accomplishment.  And now we get to enjoy two free Saturday's before basketball starts up.

It was fun to see McKenna grow and progress this year.  She is quite the remarkable soccer player.  Being on the Jamboree team has greatly improved her skill level.  In her last game she even had a hat trick, (scoring three goals in one game.)  Her coaches often refer to her as the hub of the team, the player that keeps it all going.  Her team even went the entire season being undefeated...the only team in the entire soccer organization at any age level.

Her team had a darling after game tradition where they would take center field and do a wave type action of back bends with one girl on the team doing kart wheels down the line.  So cute.  However, the coaches did have to institute a rule that soccer practice was not gymnastics practice and if there was any gymnastics whatsoever they would all have to run laps, the entire team not just the girl doing kart wheels or back bends.  

Gavin's soccer season was just cute and funny.  Every Saturday he had thirty minutes of practice followed up by a thirty minute game.  There is something that is so cute about kids at this age following the ball around in a little herd.  Or those kids that couldn't care less and are picking weeds in the grass.  Gavin and Claire actually played on the same team which was so much fun both for us as parents and them as well.

While there was no hand holding during actual game time, there was plenty of it while they chased their balls around during practice.

I know it's basically the same picture over and over again, but I just cannot ever get enough of these two.

Zachary had a great season of soccer and really loved playing.  There were a great group of boys on his team that enjoyed getting to know better.  His coaches were three UVA students and were really wonderful with the boys.  I couldn't have asked for better coaches to interact with my son, especially as I witnessed some of the other coaches/fathers of other teams.
