At the end of May the kids participated in a the Discovery Dash. For the past three years this is something McKenna has done being part of her school relay team. Sadly, last year was her last time on the team because they only have one 6, 7, 8, and 9 year old on the team. So this year we entered the kids in their individual age groups.
Gavin had to run 1/4 a mile, one lap around the track. I was nervous for him and I wondered if he would run the whole way or stop and walk.
He was a little nervous too...
On your mark, get set...
GO!!!
An entire lap around the track is a LONG way for those little guys to go. But Gavin did it!!!! He ran the entire way and never gave up. I was so proud of him.
And as he came across the finish line he looked at me with a face that said, "I am so miserable! Why did you have me do that!? That was SO hard!"
But he perked right up when he got some snacks, a yummy drink and of course his ribbon!
After Gavin it was time to watch Zachary's race. Zach had to run 1/2 a mile, two times around the track.
He ran hard the entire time!
As he was rounding the last corner he pushed himself even harder and sprinted in to the finish.
He got a time of 3:30 for his half mile. Way to go Zachary!!!
Then it was time for McKenna's age group and they ran a full mile, 4 laps around the track.
Here she is trying to elbow he way into a good position...
Check out that long legged stride of hers!
McKenna had her personal best time for a mile run, 6:42!!! She ran her heart out and even came in second place for girls!
So proud of all my great runners!
